Tattoo Artist: Fuiu Florin

Romania is a country rich with history and beauty. For example in Brasov, the Piata Sfatului  or Council Square is infused with history and appeals visually with its architecture. This location is considered to be one of the finest central squares in the country and legend has it that this is the location where the Pied Piper led the children of Hamlin. Looking at the beautiful landscape and architecture, it is easy to be inspired and a great place to meet up and coming artist Fuiu Florin.

For some artists realizing their potential may take years of practice, patience, and talent rolled together, but for others, it is as though they are born with an artistic ability that is simply waiting to be tapped and nourished as if it were a tiny seedling needing water. Tattoo artist Fuiu Florin knows he has talent and knew it from a young age. “I loved drawing ever since I was in kindergarten, but I don’t know exactly when I realized I could do something with that.” It is evident that he has great talent by the vast variety and complexity revealed within his work.

Sometimes we ask ourselves if there is one singular moment in our lives that can associated with defining ourselves. Many may believe that there is truly one experience, one moment that inspired us, made us realize that this is we want to do. However, it is not always so, in many cases a singular defining experience is not enough to influence us as in Fuiu’s case. He does not believe that there has only been one experience that helped him, but since he began tattooing his skills has rapidly evolved. Truly, this artist has serious skill as seen by many of his detailed and realistic pieces.

Fuiu chose to take kindergarten art and expand into a lifelong career, one that he loves. When asked why he made the decision to pursue tattooing, he said, “Well, you know what they say: Do something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” How true, if you really want to enjoy and love going to work, you should do something that makes you smile. Life is too short to drag yourself into a job when all you really want to do is fling paint on the walls and show some personality.

Beginning his apprenticeship in 2009, Fuiu gained much influence from his good friend Tomy and is still working on developing his own personal style taking inspiration from all around including other artists. Using Intenze ink and a Cheyenne Thunder machine, Fuiu works to develop a style all his own, creating masterful work along the way.

When asked what thoughts or emotions run through his head while working intently on a piece, Fuiu says, “it depends…it’s different from piece to piece…every day is different and I like that.” This process certainly seems to work for him as his thought process shows through vastly different pieces from lifelike portraits to flowers and insects.

Truly unique, some of Fuiu’s pieces are something to talk about, for example one of his porn pieces received an “Omg…how will the kids at the beach react?” Extraordinarily realistic, these pieces are not really out of the ordinary for Fuiu, and he remains open to all ideas waiting for an out of the ordinary piece. “There were a couple a bit strange but nothing shocking so far…unfortunately.”

Fuiu’s philosophy is simple, “I think if one is interested and works hard, they will become a great artist.” So if you want to be an artist, work hard, be creative, and set no limits to the imagination.
