Artist: Dan Morrison From: Porirua, New Zealand
Daniel has had a love for art all of his life. He was drawing before he could walk, and even tried to tattoo himself at age 11, so a career in that direction is what seemed natural to him. Daniel is no stranger to the art of tattoos. He grew up with plenty of tattooed people, namely his stepfather, who was covered from head to toe.
Before his apprenticeship, Daniel picked up any advice and tips from anyone that would give them, and practiced his work on friends. He finally started an actual apprenticeship in 2004 at Tattoo City in Wellington, New Zealand. Manu Edwin, currently of Skinart Tattoo in Germany, and Tim Hunt of Pacific Tattoo in New Zealand helped shape him into the artist he is today.
Daniel gets his inspiration from life in general, but also artists like Adrian Lee, Paul Booth, and Brandon Bond. He enjoys doing realistic pieces in color and black and gray. His inks of choice are Star Brite and Classic, and he boasts over his Micky Sharpz and Pulse machines.
He has won several awards at various shows including “Best Sleeve”, “Best Tribal”, Best NZ Related”, and “Best Overall at Show”. Although Daniel has tattooed an Olympic cyclist, he believes that, famous or not, all of his clients should be treated with the same respect and quality of work. There is no one specific he would like to work with, but Daniel says he does have an idea that he is working on that he would love to ink. “I just need to find the right person…as long as they allow me to be creative, and can do long sittings without moving, then it can be anyone…It’s just finding that person who believes in your idea as much as you do.”
Daniel is currently working on a Giger back piece, and enjoying all of the detail that goes into it! Daniel has had a love for art all of his life.
