How do you evaluate and choose winning designs?

8 views 1 helpful 3 answers
We've received multiple great submissions for our contest and are struggling to choose a winner. What criteria should we use to evaluate designs? How do you balance artistic merit with how well it fits your vision? Any tips for fair judging?

I had the same confusion when I started. Contest holders are people looking to get tattoo designs created - they post contests with their requirements. Artists are the tattoo artists who submit designs to win these contests. Think of it like a design competition where the winner gets chosen to create the actual tattoo.

For portfolio building, I'd recommend showing variety but also highlighting your strongest style. Include process shots if possible - clients love seeing the creative process. Make sure your photos are well-lit and show the tattoo clearly. Quality over quantity always wins!
